Introducing Our “Save a Life 24” Initiative

New Research Reveals Alarming Rates of Low Swimming Confidence

Here at Individuality Swimming & Fitness, we’re committed to water safety and fostering a love for swimming in people of all ages. In a recent research project conducted alongside students at Bournemouth University, we were shocked to discover that 41% of secondary school pupils in the BCP area lack the confidence to swim even 25 metres. This alarming statistic highlights a critical need to address swimming education and equip individuals with lifesaving skills.

In response, we’re thrilled to announce our “Save a Life 24” initiative – an ambitious program dedicated to making a significant impact on water safety within our community.

Our Focus

Our research involving 21 local schools revealed specific recommendations to enhance swimming education. Some of these were things that Individual Swimming & Fitness is already proud to offer, such as delivering fun and exciting swimming lessons, catering to different learning styles and offering small classes. In our Save a Life 24 initiative, we will also be focusing on:

  • Expanding School Outreach: We’ll strengthen our existing school outreach programs, promoting water safety education and ensuring students acquire vital swimming skills.
  • Community Collaboration: We’ll work closely with children’s groups like Cubs, Scouts, and Guides, alongside water safety charities like the RNLI and RLSS, to amplify our reach and impact.
  • Conquering Fear: We’ll host coffee mornings and evenings specifically designed to help individuals overcome their fear of water, creating a safe and supportive environment for them to take their first steps towards enjoying the water.
  • Swimming for All: We aim to get as many people swimming as possible, regardless of age or ability. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of swimming.

Swimming – More Than Just a Skill

But the Save A Life 24 initiative is about much more than just saving lives. Beyond this, swimming offers numerous holistic benefits for individuals of all ages. It fosters social interaction, promotes physical fitness through low-impact exercise, and contributes to mental well-being by reducing stress and releasing endorphins.
